Here were the best selling books to come out of BC in 2021

Feel like now’s the time to check out a new book? You’re in luck because a new list of the best-selling books to come out of BC for 2021 has been released, courtesy of the folks at Read Local BC. From novels to poetry, cookbooks to children’s stories, there’s something for everyone! Just don’t forget to check out your local bookstore before heading to Amazon.

In fact, the top 5 alone pretty much cover all the bases. Starting at number 5, we’ve got A Lethal Lesson: A Lane Winslow Mystery. Written by Iona Whishaw, the mystery novel follows the title character as she returns to the Kootenays, only to discover mayhem at the local school.

Coming in at number 4 is Richard Wagamese Selected: What Comes from Spirit. Here, readers can find a touching tribute to one of Canada’s most prominent Indigenous writers and storytellers, who drew his inspiration from his Ojibway roots and the world around him.

Next up, we come to a very practical book. Taking third place is Mushrooms of British Columbia, which was published by the Royal BC Museum and features a wealth of knowledge from two of BC’s most noted mushroom experts. Definitely a better guide than random advice from fellow visitors at Wreck Beach, we say.

As for the runner-up, it’s something for the children! A Is For Anemone: A First West Coast Alphabet is a beautifully illustrated alphabet book focusing on the majesty of the West Coast. From ocean critters to some of our biggest animal residents, it’ll have parents just as interested as the kids they’re reading to. Plus, who doesn’t want a 3-year-old constantly saying ‘anemone’? It’d be adorable.

And finally, it was a cookbook that took the top spot for the best-selling books from BC last year! Honestly, we think more people know about Whitewater from this incredible cookbook series than the actual resort it’s located at. We’re not bummed, though, as the latest instalment, Together Again, will have your dinner guests begging for recipes for years to come.

That’s just the top 5, too! You can check out the full list of the top 20 best-selling books to come out of BC in 2021 right here. Happy reading, fellow bookworms!
