Here are Washington’s most famous filming locations that Hollywood loves

It’s always fun when you recognize a building or place from one of your favorite movies. And while Washington might not be the biggest film hub, we still have quite a few notable filming locations. Whether you want to test your film knowledge or embark on a road trip of sorts, we’re here to remind you of a few of the best. Here are Washington’s most famous filming locations.

The Salish Lodge & Spa

Cue the Julee Cruise and Angelo Badalamenti because we’re heading to Twin Peaks. The Salish Lodge & Spa is the outside location of the fictional town’s Great Northern Hotel. You can visit it today and even book a stay if you feel so inclined. Plus you can wander down to the equally iconic Snoqualmie Falls just below.

Twede’s Cafe

On the topic of Twin Peaks, you can have a great coffee and slice of pie right in the heart of North Bend. The iconic Twede’s Cafe was the set of the fictional town’s Double R Diner. Since the reboot of Twin Peaks, the cafe has gotten a makeover of sorts so it looks even more like what the TV portrays.

Gas Works Park

It’s already one of Seattle’s most iconic landmarks but it also happens to be the location of the paintball scene in “10 Things I Hate About You”. So if you’re feeling nostalgic for some early 2000’s energy just head to the park and take a good look at the old gasification plant.

Thornewood Castle

Tacoma’s amazing 500-year-old Tudor Gothic home was the location of Stephen King’s “Rose Red”. The three-part horror mini-series centers on a murderous house that kills everyone who enters it. Regardless of whether you like the mini-series or not, the castle is well worth visiting and you can even stay there if you don’t spook too easily.

Lake Union’s Most Iconic Houseboat

Have an idea of what we’re talking about? We can’t provide too many details on this one because it’s a private residence. But at one point it was Tom Hanks’ home in the film “Sleepless in Seattle”. It’s located off of Westlake Avenue and in 2014 you actually could have purchased it for yourself, wild right?

Pike Place Market

This list wouldn’t be complete without Pike Place. The market has made cameos in all sorts of different films and shows with the most notable being “Sleepless in Seattle”. You can also catch the market in the film “Disclosure” and shows like “Greys Anatomy”. Yet another excuse to give it a visit.

Forks

We’ll cap this list with a coastal town that gained lots of notoriety thanks to the YA series “Twilight”. The film was shot in Washington, Oregon, and British Columbia with local locations like Kalama and Madison High Schools. While there aren’t a ton of local spots you can visit you can still get that same energy by visiting Forks.
