A new list from the pet sitting and dog walking company Rover shows the top names for cats and dogs in Vancouver and around Canada. Using the names of tens of thousands of pets, the company uncovered all sorts of trends, from TV shows to food and drinks.
But first, let’s see what Vancouver picked. Since there are a few to go through, we’re listing the top 3 for both female and male cats and dogs.

Well, there’s definitely a little more consistency for cats here than dogs. Weirdly though, we closely matched national trends when it came to everything except male cat names. We have no idea why this is the case, and we hope that some UBC researcher can solve the mystery for us.
Finally, there was an explosion of pet names related to the hit show Schitt’s Creek this year. Twyla and Alexis were the most popular names for dogs, while David and Moira were most popular for cats. Yeah, that definitely tracks with the characters in the show.
