Heads up hockey fans- you’ve got even more games to look forward to this fall! On Monday, reports came out that the Stockton Heat will be relocating to Calgary for the 2022-23 season. Here’s what to know about the move.
Over the years, Calgary’s AHL affiliate team has gone by many names in many cities. They first started out as the Saint John Flames way back in 1993. Then, they had stints in Omaha, the Quad Cities, and Abbotsford between 2005 and 2014. Since then, they’ve been the Stockton Heat, playing games in the California city.

However, the team got a taste of Calgary during the 2020-21 season, playing out of the Saddledome in a unique All-Canadian format that had similarities with the NHL as well. That must have worked well, since the Heat announced on Monday that the AHL had approved the relocation of the team to Calgary to kick off next season.
And we couldn’t be happier about the news! Now, we’ll be able to see exactly what kind of talent Calgary’s AHL affiliate is cooking up, live and in person. Plus, it doesn’t hurt that tickets will be a serious deal compared to actual NHL games. Here’s hoping this is the start of a long stint at home. Welcome to the city, for real this time!
