Edmonton is getting an art and book fair with author signings and interactive workshops

The Harvest Art and Book Fair is coming back to Edmonton this October, bringing along fresh new author panels and workshops for its fourth annual fall event.
Every year, Hungry Zine runs the Harvest Art and Book Fair, a two-day community-focused market event showcasing small and independent artists, writers, bookshops, and publishers, as well as other creatives. For the first time ever, the event will be providing some programming for guests, including free interactive workshops, panels, and book signings from local authors.
Whether you’re looking to build your own zine in a workshop or just check out some of your favorite local vendors, this weekend fair is going to be a blast.
What’s the schedule for this year’s Harvest Art and Book Fair?
The annual fair is coming up this weekend, on Saturday, Oct. 3, and Sunday, Oct. 4, from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. both days.
Each market day has its own schedule of programming. Both days include book signings from noon to 4 p.m., and a market featuring 30 vendors and food and drink from Balay Coffee. For a full list of vendors and which authors are visiting, you can check out the fair’s website.
As for the programming schedule, Saturday includes:
- Seedy Jam Workshop with Chelsea Boos — 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.
- According to its website, this workshop invites seed enthusiasts to connect with the group about promoting common values of sustainable land stewardship, food sovereignty, and seed security.
- Zine-making Workshop with Amy Leigh, Zine-Machine — 2 to 3:30 p.m.
- With no previous experience required and all materials provided, participants will be guided through the art of making their own collages using both text and drawing elements.
On Sunday, programming will consist of:
- A Fresh Crop of Authors Panel — 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m.
- Enjoy a series of readings from a crop of local authors with fresh books out from Edmonton independent publishing houses, including authors Alice Major, Danika Klewchuk, Melissa Walker, Richard Van Camp, and Kathryn Lennon.
- Food: The Stories We Tell Panel — 2 to 3:30 p.m.
- Holly Holt, Earl Briones, and Ramneek Singh will be joined by Hungry Zine to talk about the food industry as a chef, culinary artists, and food writer.
If you’re looking for a free community-driven event to check out this fall, this fair is just around the corner. Who knows, maybe you’ll even find your next new read!
