These cities have been ranked the happiest in all of Canada

Let’s face it, life gives us many reasons to frown. Well, this new ranking of the happiest cities in Canada may be just what you need to turn that frown upside down.

A new report by Point2 has analyzed the 100 biggest cities in Canada to determine which of them are home to the happiest residents.

The comprehensive analysis looks at a variety of factors that contribute to overall happiness, including median after-tax income, poverty rate, perceived health, commute time, rainfall, air quality, and more.

Point2 then split the metrics across four happiness-related sections: Economy & Real Estate; Location & Demographics; Health & Wellbeing; and Community & Environment.

Each city was given a happiness index score out of 100 and a rank in each of the four happiness categories.

Despite the lack of mountain landscapes and ocean air, Ontario residents seem to be the happiest — 7 out of the top 10 happiest cities in Canada are in Ontario.

Believe it or not, the happiest major city in the country is the GTA town of Caledon, followed closely by Milton, Halton Hills, Clarington, and Burlington.

4. Clarington, ON: 62.50
5. Burlington, ON: 62.47
6. Lévis, QC: 61.34
7. Oakville, ON: 61.08
8. District of North Vancouver, BC: 60.76
9. Saguenay, QC: 60.70
10. Aurora, ON: 60.57
11. Repentigny, QC: 60.00
12. Blainville, QC: 59.82
13. Terrebonne, QC: 59.75
14. Newmarket, ON: 59.69
15. Vaughan, ON: 59.67
16. Granby, QC: 58.89
17.  Ajax, ON: 58.32
18.  Port Coquitlam, BC: 58.28
19. Whitby, ON: 58.18
20. Laval, QC: 58.02

The happiest city in the Prairies is Strathcona County, landing in 23rd place with an index score of 57.29.

Strathcona is followed by St. Albert in 31st place, Airdrie in 33rd place, and Regina in 44th.

The report notes that just like in life, there is no such thing as absolute happiness — not here in Canada, at least.

“None of the largest cities in Canada ranked high in each and every happiness metric that would get them a ‘maximum happiness’ index of 100,” it says.
