Air Canada travelers will soon be able to send and receive messages on the ground and high in the sky thanks to a new partnership. But there are a few things you should know about the new changes before you take your next flight later this May.

In a new multi-year partnership with Bell, Air Canada has announced it will offer free messaging on all Wi-Fi-equipped planes across its fleet, including Air Canada Rouge and Air Canada Express flights.

The new additions will begin on May 15th but will be available only for Aeroplan members.

And for newcomers and visitors to Canada, they’ll get complimentary mobile SIM cards on select inbound international flights. They’ll be able to activate them in flight and stay connected even after they walk off the plane.

“We’re excited to partner with Air Canada, and innovate on delivering enhanced experiences for our customers. For those new to Canada or visiting, we recognize how important it is to stay connected with family and friends, and the new opportunities being connected can bring,” said Claire Gillies, Executive Vice President, Marketing and President Consumer at Bell.

“Many are already familiar with Bell and know we offer the best network, and we’re thrilled to be making it even easier for them to connect when they arrive in Canada.

This means that travelers will be able to stay connected via onboard Wi-Fi using messaging apps like iMessage, WhatsApp, Facebook Messenger, Viber, and Messages by Google.

If you happen to be a loyalty member of United MileagePlus, Lufthansa Group Miles & More, and Emirates Skywards, you will also be eligible to use the new perks.

Just make sure your account is linked with your Air Canada booking and you’re set.

Air Canada will also introduce Live TV service on flights to the U.S., launching later this summer.
