You can harvest your own crystals at this trail near North Bend

Washington’s Hansen Creek Trail is truly a hidden gem for adventure seekers looking for a unique hiking experience. The trail gives you the best of both worlds – stunning views of the Cascade Mountains and the unique opportunity to harvest crystals along the way.

The crystals found at Hansen Creek Trail include quartz crystals and amethyst. The crystals are beautiful, and finding one makes the moderate to difficult hike well worth it. Not only that but the drive to the trailhead is only about an hour.

While the crystals here are known for being plentiful, you should come prepared. It’s recommended that you have basic mining equipment like a small shovel, a classifier, a rock pick, gloves, and something to carry your finds in.

Despite there being “creek” in the trail title, there’s actually not a creek where you dig for crystals. The public dig area is all in loose soil so don’t expect to be wading in the water looking for gems.

The trail itself is 1.4 miles long and while it’s common for people to stop halfway and start digging, you want to go all the way to the end for the best selection.

It’s important to note that while crystal hunting is permitted on Hansen Creek Trail, it’s essential to do so responsibly and respectfully. Be sure only to take what you need and leave the rest for future hikers to enjoy.

What’s more, be prepared for the outdoors, be aware, and most importantly, have fun.
