Whether you read the book or watched the show – it’s safe to assume that Margaret Atwood’s The Handmaid’s Tale probably made a deep and lasting impression on you.
A powerful story about bodily autonomy, government, and strength the Canadian author’s frightening novel was adapted by the Royal Winnipeg Ballet and is set to hit the stage this week at the Jubilee Auditorium.
Choreographed by Lila York, who actually worked with Atwood to tell this particular story, RWB’s thrilling dance drama follows one woman’s journey through the dystopian social order of Gilead.
“Once seen as controversial, the story, its premise and its characters are now fully part of our culture and our lexicon,” York says in the show’s description.
“It has been a privilege for me to work with RWB and their brilliant and dedicated dancers on this project. I am deeply indebted to Ms. Atwood for her support and her wisdom.”
While the show is not suitable for those under the age of 12, mature audiences are encouraged to snag their tickets now and can do so at the website below.
