‘Spooky as hell’ Halloween pop-up bar opens in Toronto this week

Ready to have a freakishly good time? The most ghoulishly and freakishly scary Halloween pop-up bar of your nightmares arrives in Toronto this week.

Open until Halloween, Black Lagoon will serve up creepy cocktails in an equally creepy immersive space.

Black Lagoon is a playful celebration of all things horror, goth, and metal where you can dress up in your weirdest and spookiest costume.

According to organizers, “Black Lagoon helps cocktail bars present a dark celebration for those who revel in the mysterious and bizarre, where guests can transport themselves to a world that blurs that line between reality and the supernatural.”

Visitors will be able to fully immerse themselves in the world of darkness, surrounded by dark, “dungeon-like decorations with skulls, coffins, and other elements that pay homage to goth, horror and all things Halloween.”

As for the cocktails, there are three to try – the “Book of Blood,” a take on a Mai Tai, the creepy Night Crawler, served in a festive and celebratory coupe, Hellfire Fizz – an evilly earthy cocktail, Death Rattle – a gin-based concoction, Crystal Flesh – a lighter elixir and Satanic Panic – a spirit free cocktail.

The bar pop-up was created by industry veterans Kelsey Ramage and Erin Hayes, and first debuted in Toronto in October 2021.

Since then it has grown across North America with pop up in the U.S. and now Mexico.

“The cocktails are where we really get to have fun and really bring Black Lagoon to life,” said Ramage.

“Erin and I get to put our bar-focused brains together and really play with our love for the heebie-jeebies to come up with a curated menu of blood-curdling cocktails.”

Costumes are not required for entry but are highly encouraged. Why not go all the way?

The Black Lagoon Halloween Pop-up will take over Toronto’s Bar Mordecai for a few short weeks this spooky season.
