Pakenham, Ontario is not only a wonderful winter destination but it also serves as a backdrop to several Hallmark Christmas movies.
You almost feel a sense of magic when the first snowfall blankets the region. It transforms our beloved towns into whimsical winter escapes that make you feel as if you’re in a holiday movie.
And that’s exactly how Pakenham feels during the holiday season.
The village of Pakenham was first established in 1823 as a postal station, according to Municipality of Mississippi Mills. It was named after Sir Edward Michael Pakenham, a brother-in-law to the Duke of Wellington.
The village is also known for its landmark, the Five Span Bridge, which is the only bridge of its kind in North America.
It also has an 1840s General Store & Bakery, which is described as “Canada’s oldest general store to have operated continuously on its original site, in its original stone building.”
No winter trip is complete without a stop at Mount Pakenham, which has stunning vistas and a thrilling ski hill.
But the fun doesn’t end there. The village is home to the famous Cedar Hill Christmas Tree Farm. It’s a lively holiday spot that, according to Ottawa Tourism, has been featured in several holiday movies.
You will also spot the lovely village in The Rooftop Christmas Tree, Christmas Festival of Ice, Christmas Scavenger Hunt and A Cheerful Christmas.
The region itself is a heartwarming experience in the winter and is also home to another Hallmark filming hub: Almonte.
Live your main character moment, walking along the streets of Almonte, taking in the picturesque sights. It’s only a 15-minute drive from Pakenham.
These are just some of the destinations in Ontario that are so charming they feel like a holiday movie.
Just be sure to add Pakenham to that list.
