Grocery stores on wheels could be popping up around Canada as early as spring

Chances are that we’ve all taken advantage of some delivery services during the pandemic. But what if the whole grocery store came to you? Well, a new concept GroceryNeighbour is about to do just that, by putting grocery stores on wheels and bringing them to a neighbourhood near you.

GroceryNeighbour is essentially a giant truck that’s a grocery store. The trucks are 53 feet long and you can find items like meat, produce, dairy, and more. They’ll have different temperature zones for produce and perishables, just like a real store! So this is pretty great for neighborhoods that are considered to be in a “food desert”.

The trucks will work by scanning products on your phone and having a digital lineup system. It’s basically meant to be super convenient. But for the initial launch, GroceryNeighbor will focus on reaching neighborhoods that are more than 15 minutes from major grocery stores.

The CEO of GroceryNeighbour, Frank Sinopoli, spoke with Retail Insider and said within five years there will be thousands of these stores. And while it seems a little bit crazy to say we think he’s probably right. After all, there is a demand for this and life is rapidly changing due to the pandemic.

Well, grocery stores on wheels might sound like a funny concept, but if Canadians acceptance of grocery delivery services during the pandemic are any sign, these will be a hit.

If you’d like to learn more you can click here. And while the stores are meant to launch in the next 30 to 90 days you can also vote to have a store in your neighborhood at the link above. We’ll be very curious to see how this plays out. Have a great week folks!
