Gord Downie’s rockstar-worthy former home is up for sale in Toronto (PHOTOS)

Ontario’s very own rock legend Gord Downie once lived large in Toronto. The late Tragically Hip frontman’s former Rosedale mansion, up for sale for a cool $6 million, gives us a glimpse into the lavish surroundings he once called home.

The “exquisitely refined” home boasts five bedrooms, seven bedrooms, an infrared sauna, a third-floor deck, and heated floors throughout. Plus, it has not one, not two, but five fireplaces. Sounds like a very cozy place to come home to during Toronto’s frigid winters.

Each of the rooms has high ceilings and tons of natural light, with views of the tall trees on the property that give the home so much privacy.

In a statement after his passing in 2017, Downie was described by his loved ones as an incredible father, son, brother, husband, and friend — there’s no doubt that this home is where many of their best memories with the late musician took place.

The home is located at 12 Mckenzie Ave in the upscale Rosedale area, in close proximity to the DVP, downtown, the U of T campus, and the Bloor subway line, although we’re pretty certain he wasn’t be commuting to his shows by public transit at this point in his life.

Sure, the $6 million price tag is out of reach for most people. Even the $22,521 in taxes is enough to send us running. But it doesn’t hold a candle to the most expensive home for sale in Canada just a 30-minute drive from Gord’s place — a jaw-dropping $45 million estate in Mississauga. And you can’t put a price on the surreal feeling that comes with owning a home with such incredible history.
