‘The Last of Us’ to ‘Fargo’: 3 Alberta spots collectively named ‘filming location of the year’ in Cannes

Wild Rose Country has become quite the TV and movie hotspot  – but this is just the beginning! The Global Production Awards in Cannes, France just recognized a trio of popular standing sets putting Alberta on the radar of artists worldwide.

Known for hosting major projects including The Last Of Us, The Revenant, Fargo and Heartland (to name a few), John Scott Ranch, CL Ranch and Albertina Farms were presented the prestigious ‘Location of the Year Award,’ which recognizes the outstanding work done on one or more productions.

In addition to this, Calgary was also a finalist for the City of Film Award, which is given to a city whose work has helped TV and filmmakers develop local skills and boost the local economy.

“Calgarians have come to know that our city is one of the top up-and-coming cities in the film and television sector. With this award and nomination, now the whole world knows it too,” said Calgary’s Mayor Jyoti Gondek.

“Film-friendly municipal policies, along with economic development initiatives, and an incredible talent pool will continue to cement Calgary as the location of choice for productions.”

So where are these renowned sets?

CL Ranch is located near Aldersyde, while Albertina Farms is just outside of Okotoks. Lastly, John Scott Ranch, a Western-style favourite is located near Longview, so keep an eye open if you’re in the area!

It won’t be long until we see more familiar faces in and around Alberta! After all, if The Global Production Awards thinks we’re special, we must be, right?

Enjoy and happy celeb-seeking!
