Views of a flowing river, bluffs and striking colours await along this trail near Toronto

You won’t have to venture far outside the city for a photo-worthy outdoor adventure. Glen Eagles Vista Trail is located within Rouge National Urban Park, just 40 minutes outside of downtown Toronto, Ontario. The trail is considered an easy hike making it an ideal place to escape to with a friend or family member if the hustle and bustle of the city is too much.

Getting there

The 40-minute drive from downtown makes checking out the Glen Eagles Vista Trail easy to visit!

The parking lot will be closed down until May 2025, so if you do plan on driving to the park, you’ll need to find street parking or a paid lot nearby.

The trailhead for Glen Eagles Vista Trail is right at the corner of Sheppard Avenue and East Twyn Rivers Drive in Toronto, Ontario.

Upon entering the 600-meter trail you’ll be treated to gorgeous views of fall foliage.

Continuing along, you can see a “distinct bluff overlooking the Rouge River with sandy brown rock layers”. These rock layers were deposited 13,000 to 30,000 years ago!

The layers came to be following thousands of years of climatic cooling and warming with “sedimentary rocks accumulating, shifting, and eroding to eventually create this striking and well-known landscape feature”.

Panoramic sights of views of the Little Rouge Creek and Rouge River can also be seen along the trail, surrounded by burnt orange, red, and yellow colours dancing around the landscape.

If you want to add a little more to your day, there are over 10 other trails to check out in the dark including the Northeast Trail, Harvest Trail, Central Trail, South Central Trail and Tallgrass Trek.

Enjoy your hike!
