Once upon a time, Big Island, just outside of Edmonton’s city limits, was an immensely popular tourist destination. Now, over a hundred years later, an Edmonton company has started offering trips to this accessible yet remote area. Here’s the rundown.

Big Island was ironically a super popular tourist destination around a century ago, with people taking day trips to visit the 70-acre island. However, the first World War and a major flood back in 1915 pretty much decimated tourism, and the island more or less returned to nature.

Up until this summer, that is! The local company Urban River Adventures has started to offer ‘glamping’ trips to the island! Basically, everything from transport to and from the island to activities while you’re there has been covered. Heck, you can even wake up to breakfast in the morning (if you opt for the VIP option).

That’s proven to be a huge success, with dates selling out until the second half of September. But, fear not! Urban River Adventures has got more than more activities on and near Big Island for you to enjoy, from kayaking trips to a similarly exciting ‘tree tent’ camping experience.

All you’ve got to do is pick one!
