Meteor showers may seem like a summer phenomenon but luckily for all of us, they happen nearly year-round. In fact, one of the best meteor showers – the Geminid meteor shower is about to be at its peak. Here’s when and where to go to catch the spectacular phenomenon.
The Geminids are known for their bold, white, and bright lights and are considered one of the Northern Hemisphere’s best showers. They’re so good that they even rival the August Perseids.
Under a dark sky with no moon, you might catch 120 Geminid meteors per hour.

The best part is that you don’t really have to wait for this shower because it’s on now. However, it is set to peak on December 14th at 13 UTC.
Earth Sky suggests watching in moonlight on the nights of December 13th and 14th or watching earlier in the evening, after Gemini is above the horizon but before the moon rises.
Of course, the darker the sky, the better and we’ve taken out some of the guesswork for you with a list of the best places to go stargazing. Enjoy the Geminid meteor shower, Seattle!
