This national park in Quebec is home to some of the oldest mountains in the world

If you’re looking for an unforgettable adventure, Gaspesie National Park stands as an awe-inspiring testament to the raw beauty of Canadian wilderness. For adventurers and nature enthusiasts alike, this enchanting paradise promises a year-round destination for exploration.

Gaspesie National Park was created in 1937 as a permanent measure to protect the park’s unique species like the Gaspésie Caribou and the Rivière Sainte-Anne salmon. Now visitors to the park can enjoy a mosaic of landscapes from the peaks of Mont Albert and the McGerrigle Mountains, to forests and alpine lakes that mirror the skies.

Hiking trails snake through lush forests, and rocky mountain summits at all different lengths meaning you can visit the park for just a day or embark on a longer backpacking trip. What’s more, the International Appalachian Trail weaves through the park so you can even plan ahead and train for a real adventure.

While the natural beauty of the park is unbeatable, its geographical history is equally enthralling. According to Sépaq the rocks that form the mountains are up to 600 million years old making them among some of the world’s oldest. Although they are still young when compared to Quebec and Ontario’s other notable range, The Laurentian Mountains which are up to 1.7 billion years old.

Beyond hiking, you can enjoy kayaking, fishing, and of course wildlife watching. In the winter you can enjoy snowshoeing as well as backcountry and cross-country skiing.

No matter what time of year you visit, this park has amazing opportunities for adventure and memories in the making.
