Southern Ontario’s largest forest has hundreds of kilometres of trails

The largest forest in Southern Ontario is just one hour away from Toronto! The Ganaraska Forest is nestled along the Municipalities of Northumberland County, Peterborough County, the City of Kawartha Lakes and Durham, offering hundreds of kilometres of trails waiting to be explored.

The best part? The trails are open year-round meaning you can check them out any time.

According to Ganaraska Conservation, “all of the trails in the Ganaraska Forest are open to hiking year-round, with the exception of cross county ski trails where hiking is not permitted from January 1st to March 31st.”

You can spend all day exploring, with the first open from dawn until dusk each day.

You can map out which trails and parts of the Ganaraska Forest you want to check out by downloading the interactive map of the area here.

If you prefer to explore on bike, you’re covered.

“The Ganaraska Forest Trail is one of Canada’s great “epic trails” when it comes to mountain biking in North America,” says Northumberland Tourism.

That’s not all! There’s a way to take your adventure one step further. Within the forest, there’s a tree-top trekking experience and a zipline experience.

The experiences are put on by Treetop Trekking and start at $49 per person.

Pack your bag for an amazing day of exploring, Ontario!
