You can watch plays under the stars in Edmonton this summer

Talk about a midsummer night’s dream, hey? The Freewill Shakespeare Festival is returning to Edmonton this summer, offering an amazing night out under the stars! Things kick off later this month, with two of the Bard’s plays lined up for your enjoyment. Here’s what to know about it.

The plays kick off on June 14th, and will be running daily until July 10th. For those looking for an iconic option, we’re suggesting you check out A Midsummer Night’s Dream, which will be showing on even dates and most of the matinee shows. If you’re craving something a little different, know that this is the first time the festival will be showing Measure for Measure, which is one of Shakespeare’s “problem plays”, switching heavily between dark and comedic tones.

As usual, the Freewill Shakespeare Festival will be returning to one of the most gorgeous outdoor venues around- the Heritage Amphitheatre at Hawrelak Park. And while you’ll be treated to a play under the stars while you’re there, we’re also kind of grateful that it’s covered, just in case some unexpected rain rolls along during the shows.

The final bonus here? The price! While general admission is a mere $35, those looking to save some money should know about the pay-what-you-will matinee options on Tuesdays and Saturdays. And if you’re a student? Well, you can check out the Sunday shows for just $5!
