Are you a history buff? Well, you’ll be glad to know that Toronto is home to a ton of museums that you can visit for free. You read that right. We’ve compiled a list of Toronto museums and galleries that are absolutely free, some on select nights. Just make sure to register ahead of time!

Aga Khan Museum Free Wednesdays

The Aga Khan Museum welcomes to the public to enjoy free admission on Wednesdays from 4 PM to 8 PM.

Where: 77 Wynford Drive
When: Wednesdays from 4 PM to 8 PM
Cost: FREE

Bata Shoe Museum Free Sundays 

Bata Shoe Museum opens its doors for free on Sundays.

Advanced tickets are not required, but BSM does recommend booking them if you’re able.

Where: 327 Bloor Street West
When: Sundays from 12 PM to 5 PM
Cost: FREE

City of Toronto

Oh, and the city has a list of history museums that are always free to visit, too!

“This is one of many initiatives at Toronto History Museums to advance diversity, equity and inclusion,” shares the city.

“Toronto History Museums is committed to dismantling museums’ ongoing colonial legacies and working towards fostering reconciliation and healing as well as enhancing the understanding of Toronto’s diverse stories from multiple perspectives.”

First Wednesdays at the AGO

Admission to the AGO is free the first Wednesday night of each month, between 6 PM and 9 PM.

Be sure to book your free General Admission tickets online in advance to make sure you’re able to get in!

Tickets are released online at 10 AM the Monday before the first Wednesday of every month. A maximum of two tickets can booked at a time.

When: Every first Wednesday of the month from 6 PM to 9 PM
Cost: FREE

Friday Nights at MOCA

Visit the MOCA museum for free every Friday from 5 PM until 9 PM.

Guests can attend an exhibition, explore the historic building, and enjoy special events on select dates.

Last entry is 8:45 PM.

When: Fridays from 5 PM to 9 PM
Cost: FREE

Third Tuesdays at the ROM

The ROM is free for everyone on the third Tuesday Night of each month.

There is no advanced booking necessary to attend, but admission does run on a first-come-first-serve basis.

Dates are as follows: September 17th, 2024, October 15th, 2024, November 19th, 2024 & December 17th, 2024

When: Every third Tuesday of the month from 4:30 PM to 8:30 PM
Cost: FREE
