It’s a time-honoured tradition, and it’s back for 2022! The City of Edmonton is gearing up to put on a free fireworks show for Canada Day, on July 1st. Thinking of checking it out? Here’s what to know.

The fireworks will be launching from Kinsmen Park, offering a wide variety of viewing options throughout the River Valley. The show is set to begin at 11 pm, but the city is advising people to get to their viewing areas early, and especially if they plan on driving down to see them.

On that note, the recommended areas to catch this free fireworks show in Edmonton for Canada Day are:

Open to Cars:

  • Alberta Legislature Grounds
  • Victoria Park
  • Ezio Faraone Park (west entrance to High Level Bridge on 109 Street north)
  • Government House Park

Pedestrian Only:

  • River Valley Road
  • Walterdale Hill Road and Promenade
  • Queen Elizabeth Park, Hill and Road
  • 109 Street (between Saskatchewan Drive and the High Level Bridge)

It should be noted that watercraft are also an option for the fireworks, but those who go with that route will need to respect closures and any other restrictions that may come up.

It’s going to be a busy night, and the city is taking no chances with road closures and restricted areas ahead of it. So, plan ahead, get there early, and enjoy!
