There’s a scenic B.C. trail that leads to four sparkling mountain lakes

With summer officially underway, now is the perfect time to explore B.C.’s many lakeside trails. Fortunately for Vancouverites, you don’t have to venture far from the city to experience some of the most breathtaking nature in the province, and the Four Lakes Trail just north of Squamish is a perfect example of that.

Situated at the popular Alice Lake Provincial Park, the trail is a classic Squamish hike that leads to not one, but four sparkling mountain lakes. The 6.5 km loop takes hikers through beautiful creeks, second-growth forest, and four distinct lakes, starting with the smaller Stump Lake featuring “peek-a-boo” views of Mount Garibaldi.

The well-marked trail then leads past Cheekeye Creek to Fawn and Edith Lakes, eventually meandering back to the picturesque Alice Lake.

While all four lakes offer ample swimming opportunities, Alice Lake is, of course, the most popular pick for hikers, day-trippers, and campers, complete with designated swimming areas and docks. However, there’s nothing as rewarding as a refreshing dip in a quieter lake on the way.

Note that dogs must be on leash at all times, and are not permitted on the Alice Lake Trail, beach, playground, or picnic area.

The park is situated along Highway 99, 5 km north of Squamish. Visitors can follow the signs for the park and the trail to Alice Lake itself, or the Stump Lake entrance. Both areas have parking, though Stump Lake is best if you’re vying for a spot during the summer months.

If you’re looking to kickstart your outdoor adventures, now is the perfect time to do it.

How to get there: Drive one hour from Vancouver to Alice Lake Park via BC-99 N.
