There’s so much to explore, you’ll just have to see it for yourself.

But this isn’t just any holiday experience; visitors will get to step back in time within the grounds of Ontario’s first European community.

Midland & History

That’s right! Sainte-Marie among the Hurons was originally established in 1639 and was once a bustling French Jesuit settlement, dedicated to serving the Huron-Wendat people.

“The Jesuits, along with French lay workers, began construction of a palisaded community that included barracks, a church, workshops, residences, and a sheltered area for Indigenous visitors,” shares the site.

“This community was abandoned and burned down in 1649.”

Today, this site offers visitors an immersive journey through history with costumed interpreters, historical demonstrations, and interactive exhibits.

Don’t miss your chance to be part of this cherished holiday tradition. Whether you’re here for the sights, the sounds, or the rich stories of Ontario’s past, Sainte-Marie’s First Light is ready to warm your heart this holiday season.

Will we see you in Midland this holiday season?
