From the Rocky Mountains to its major cities, Wild Rose Country is a stunner – which is why it’s hardly surprising that towns, lakes, rivers and restaurants have appeared on screens big and small. If you’ve ever been curious about some of these Hollywood-approved destinations, here are just a few filming locations that you can visit in and around Alberta.

Elbow Falls

Located west of Bragg Creek, Alberta’s beautiful Elbow Falls has been featured in the Bourne Legacy and Jumanji: The Next Level – which stars the Rock, Nick Jonas and Kevin Hart.

Alberta Legislature Building

While we haven’t seen the show in its entirety yet, The Last Of Us features a ton of Alberta locations, one of which is the Edmonton Legislature Building. How do we know this? Well, in addition to it appearing in the show’s official trailer, fans local to the area caught the star of the show, Pedro Pascal (The Mandalorian) on site.

Fortress Mountian

One of Alberta’s most popular filming locations! Fortress Mountain has been featured in The Bourne Legacy, Inception and The Revenant with Leonardo DiCaprio, as well as Brokeback Mountian.

Ranchman’s Cookhouse and Dancehall

Speaking of Brokeback Mountain, the Oscar-award-winning film also featured Ranchman’s Cookhouse and Dancehall, a beloved Calgary spot in the South end of the city. Cool Runnings was also filmed here!

Inglewood

Heavily featured in Fargo Season 1 – Inglewood in Calgary is the oldest and one of the most incredible destinations in the city. Do you think you can count all of the street signs, stores and Restaurants that the characters pass in this show?

Located in Okotoks, Seaman Stadium was featured in the iconic Interstellar, which is arguably one of the best space and time movies ever made. What’s cooler than thinking you might be seated exactly where Matthew McConaughey was while filming?

McMahon Stadium

A show that follows a group of zombie outbreak survivors, Black Summer was filmed entirely in Alberta. One notable location? Calgary’s McMahon Stadium.

Fort Macleod

From Ghostbusters: Afterlife and Let Him Go, to Brokeback Mountain, Interstellar and The Last of Us, Fort Macleod is adored by the movie industry – and we get it. Walking downtown is like taking a stroll back in time.

West Edmonton Mall

From Christmas in Wonderland, which stars Tim Curry (Rocky Horror Picture Show), Carmen Electra (Bay Watch) and the late, great Patrick Swayze (Dirty Dancing) to the Prom Night sequel, Hello Mary Lou – West Edmonton Mall has also been used in various movies. But we’re not surprised – it’s world-renowned!
