Calling all movie buffs: 5 film festivals coming up in Ontario

Film buffs – mark your calendars! Many film festivals take place all over the province when spring and summer roll around meaning it’s time to start planning out which ones you’re going to attend! Here are five film festivals happening in Ontario this spring and summer.

TIFF Next Wave Film Festival

Of course, we all know and love the Toronto International Film Festival but did you know the organization continues to foster year-round programming and events?

Next Wave Festival is hosted at the TIFF Bell Lightbox and showcases the talents of young filmmakers aged 14-26.

The three-day festival features various genres of filmmaking.

When: April 11th-14th, 2024
Where: TIFF Bell Lightbox, 350 King St W, Toronto ON

Blue Mountain Film Festival 

Over the course of this four-day festival, guests can enjoy top international and Canadian narrative and documentary films plus TV and digital media screenings!

When: May 30th-June 2nd. 2024
Where: Blue Mountain Village, 156 Jozo Weider Blvd, The Blue Mountains, ON

Toronto Jewish Film Festival 

Toronto Jewish Film Festival captures Jewish culture and experiences are through storytelling.

These documentaries and films come from around the world and can be enjoyed from May 30th-June 9th.

When: May 30th-June 9th, 2024
Where: Various venues in Toronto

IncluCity Festival

This is another Toronto film festival, attracting over 58,000 people to “celebrate movie magic, multiculturalism and diversity.”

This festival features lineup of outdoor screenings, insightful conferences and special events.

When: June 27th-July 21st, 2024
Where: Distillery Historic District, 55 Mill Street, Toronto

Grand River Film Festival 

This film festival brings screenings to Waterloo Region including Cambridge, Kitchener and Waterloo.

According to Grand River Film Festival’s website, “The festival hosts local, Canadian, and international films, pairing screenings with panels consisting of directors, film professionals, local interest groups and notable guest speakers.”

Dates for the 2024 festival have not been released yet but can be expected in May.
