Toronto will soon find out which World Cup matches it will host: what we know so far

Sunday is a big day! Soccer representatives from Canada, the United States and Mexico along with FIFA will be announcing on Sunday, February 4th the official match schedule of the 2026 World Cup including what matches will be coming to Toronto. Here’s what we know so far.

Toronto is set to be one of the hosts of the 2026 World Cup in Canada along with Vancouver. The other counterparts of the tournament are the United States and Mexico.

The broadcast of the announcement will be available live at 3:00 PM on TSN, CTV and RDS platforms and FIFA’s digital and social platforms.

The 30-minute cast will reveal major schedule details including where the 104 matches will take place, the location of the tournament’s opening match, details of the first match in each host country, the Group-Stage locations for each host country’s national team and the venue for the awaited FIFA World Cup Final on Sunday, July 19th, 2026.

Additionally, news broke this week that the Ontario Government would be giving Toronto $97 million in “conditional” funding to host the matches in the city.

In a letter obtained by Global News addressed to Toronto’s city manager, the province said it would pay up to $97 million and that the money can only be used for investments that will “build lasting public infrastructure” and benefit the local community following the matches.
