This B.C. snowshoe trail is surrounded by dramatic peaks and leads to a lake

If you’re looking for a serene snowshoe trail to venture down this winter but don’t want to get in over your head, the Coquihalla Summit Recreation Area is a great place to base your adventure out of. Specifically, the trail to Falls Lake offers visitors the opportunity to explore a “short, well-maintained” route that doesn’t compromise on winter scenery.

According to BC Parks, the area transitions between the coastal and southern interior environments, which have four distinct biogeoclimatic zones between them.

During the warmer months, the area is a prime spot for wildlife viewing, allowing travellers along the Coquilla Highway to stop and take in some impressive natural features on their journey.

This includes the towering granite peaks and historic Kettle Valley Railway.

The snowshoe trail to Falls Lake follows a creek right to the shores of the lake, offering scenic views of Nak Peak to the left and Zoa Peak to the right.

How to access the snowshoe trail

To get there, visitors walk up the road from the parking lot on the right side, following the sign on the left to Falls Lake. While the groomed trail initially ascends quickly, it levels out as you continue to snowshoe through the surrounding forest, crossing a series of small wooden bridges.

It’s worth checking out the area if you’re in search of an easy-to-access snowy adventure!
