Ontario’s fall hiking hot spots are just a quick drive from Toronto

The most colourful season of the year is fast approaching and if you’re planning to do some fall hikes at Ontario provincial parks this year, you may want to secure your spot ahead of time.

“It’s shaping up to be a busy season at Ontario Parks especially at some of our hiking hot spots,” said a representative of Ontario Parks to Curiocity.

According to Ontario Parks, some destinations are more popular than others, and rightfully so.

Given their stunning scenery, picturesque walking trails, and canopies of autumn leaves, it’s no surprise that vehicle permits are going quickly at these destinations.

Aside from the obvious Algonquin Park, two parks stand out for being Ontario’s fall hiking hot spots, and the good news is that they’re much closer to the city.

However, if you wanted to do Algonquin in a day, this shuttle bus will take you straight there and back from the downtown core, with enough time for several hours of hiking.

Forks of the Credit Provincial Park is considered one of Ontario’s hottest hiking spots. This spot is less than an hour west of downtown Toronto in Caledon, so you don’t even have to venture outside of the GTA.

Located about an hour from Toronto is Mono Cliffs Provincial Park, known for its unique canyons, escarpment trails, and lookout points.

The unbelievable fall views make these spots very popular in the fall, especially on weekends. Booking a vehicle permit in advance online is highly recommended to save your spot and avoid being turned away if lots fill up.

As hard as it is to say goodbye to summer, we’d be lying if we said we weren’t looking forward to a crisp autumn day at these spectacular spots.
