This Ontario park’s Carolinian forest transforms into a fall wonderland of vibrant colour

Looking for the best fall viewing experience? Make your way to Rondeau, Ontario’s second oldest provincial park, known for its beautiful sand dune beaches and stunning displays in the fall.

This escape from reality can only be found along Lake Erie, surrounded by rare, centuries-old trees that are simply begging to be explored.

Located just about three hours west of Toronto is Rondeau Provincial Park. It has a home right on the Lake Erie side of the Rondeau peninsula.

What to do at the park

According to Ontario Parks, if you’re on the hunt for fun outdoor activities, this park is perfect for hiking, biking and rollerblading.

During the fall season, Rondeau is the ideal place for a mindful hike, where you can find peace and solace as you venture through the beautiful Carolinian forest.

Feast your eyes on the surrounding landscape where trees glow in shades of red and orange and a warm hue takes over the atmosphere. It truly is breathtaking.

Per Ontario Parks, there are several one hour hiking trails that are fairly easy to explore. But if you’d like something more challenging, the Harrison Trail is a great option.

“Harrison Trail was once a gravel roadway, originally constructed to provide access to the lighthouse at the tip of the peninsula,” shares OP.

“The trail travels the length of the park and passes through a variety of habitats including Oak Woodland, Oak Savanna, small prairie openings and Carolinian forest. This is an excellent trail to view birds, butterflies and wildflowers.”

There’s no doubt you’ll be falling in love with Rondeau Provincial Park this fall season.

Plan your trip and pack those hiking boots – your next adventure awaits.
