This must-see Ontario park has a thundering gorge between steep cliffs

Our province is home to many spectacular sights, but this one is a sight to behold. Tucked away in northeastern Ontario is a hidden gem that nature lovers can’t resist exploring – the Eau Claire Gorge Conservation Area.

The most spectacular scenic feature is the gorge itself, and the views will leave you spellbound.

Here, the Amable du Fond River flows between steep rock walls in a dramatic series of rapids and waterfalls, according to the North Bay Mattawa Conservation Authority.

As you traverse the 1.9 km self-guided interpretive trail, you’ll be treated to a journey through time, uncovering the area’s rich history.

You’ll get to imagine yourself back in the 1870s when the Mackey Lumber Company ruled these lands.

The remnants of a log slide and dam they constructed still stand as silent witnesses to their past.

Along the trail, you’ll stumble upon a logger’s cabin, painstakingly reconstructed in 1989.

A word to the wise, though – it’s for day use only. No overnight stays or campfires allowed!

But let’s not forget the star of the show – the waterfall.

It announces its presence long before you catch sight of it, thanks to the thunderous roar of the cascade, says an article by Northern Ontario Travel.

Plummeting 40 feet through the narrow pass, this waterfall is an awe-inspiring spectacle that’ll have you reaching for your camera.

However, be prepared for a bit of a workout!

The trail isn’t for the faint of heart, with its hilly terrain and sometimes slippery railway ties, says the Ontario Trails Council.

It’s not recommended for young children, given the height of the gorge.

But for those seeking adventure and a deeper connection to nature, it’s a journey you won’t want to miss.
