Lush canopies of autumn leaves as far as the eye can see — that’s what you’ll find at Dundas Valley Conservation Area this time of year!
Described as “one of southern Ontario’s most spectacular natural treasures,” the Dundas Valley is the place to go for breathtaking lookout points and attractions around every corner.
Located just an hour outside of Toronto, the 1,200-hectare conservation area is comprised of forests, meadows, streams, wildlife, waterfalls, and ancient geological formations.
This area was actually made up of glaciers some 10,000 years ago, and the landscape we enjoy today is a result of glacial meltwater and erosion.
The 40 km recreational trail system runs through the towns of Ancaster and Dundas.
There are three main trails you can tackle — the Main Loop Trail, Bruce Trail, and the Hamilton to Brantford Rail Trail.
In addition to canopies of autumn foliage, these trails will take you past ruins and several waterfalls.
The waterfalls in the area include Canterbury Falls, Sherman Falls, Lower Little Falls, and Tiffany Falls.

There’s also the nearby Tew’s Falls and Websters Falls, located within the Spencer Gorge Conservation Area — we recommend this spot for those panoramic views from above the valley.
While you’re in the area, you will definitely want to make a pit stop in the town of Dundas.
The bustling main strip is filled with shops, restaurants, and cafes — we recommend brunch on the patio at Detour!
If you’re feeling more indulgent, you can also do the lavish waterfall-side brunch at the Ancaster Mill.
You can’t go home without picking up some goodies from Dyments Farm, Market & Bakery, which is right in the heart of the Dundas Valley area.
