It’s time to plan ahead! Fall is just around the corner and if you are a sucker for the stunning displays of colour autumn is known to bring, head to the Dundas Valley Conservation Area. Summer or fall, you have time to enjoy it!
According to the Hamilton Conservation Authority, this area is described as “one of southern Ontario’s most spectacular natural treasures.”
The Dundas Valley is the place to go for breathtaking lookout points and attractions around every corner.
We’re talking “lush Carolinian forests, colourful meadows, cold-water streams, stunning geological formations and an array of rare plants, birds and wildlife,” per the HCA.
It’s just an hour away from Toronto is the 1,200-hectare conservation area. It is actually made up of glaciers over 10,000 years ago, and the landscape we enjoy today is a result of glacial meltwater and erosion, per the HCA.
It also has a 40 km recreational trail system that runs through the towns of Ancaster and Dundas.
There are three main trails you can tackle — the Main Loop Trail, Bruce Trail, and the Hamilton to Brantford Rail Trail. In addition to the stunning views of autumn foliage, these trails will take you past ruins and several waterfalls.
These waterfalls include Canterbury Falls, Sherman Falls, Lower Little Falls, and Tiffany Falls.
