Disney’s The Lion King is looking for dancers in Toronto & here’s how to audition

Calling all dancers! If you’re a dancer in Toronto looking for a new opportunity, why not try your hand at the theatre? Disney’s The Lion King, put on by Mirvish Productions, is holding a Toronto casting call for male and female dancers in preparation for its upcoming production and here are all the details.

When and where is the audition?

The casting call is for both male and female dancers and will be an open casting call meaning anyone is welcome to come out and audition.

The audition for female dancers will be held at The Elgin Theatre at 9:00 AM on February 26th. According to the casting call, they are seeking “strong female-identifying dancers with a modern/ballet dance background—late teens to early 30s.”

The male audition will be held the following day, February 27th at The Elgin Theatre. The casting call is for “Strong male-identifying dancers with a modern/ballet dance background—late teens to early 30s.”

The casting call also mentions that dancers of all races and cultural backgrounds are encouraged to audition.

Preparations & requirements

The preparations and requirements are the same for both female and male participants and are as follows:

• You must be warmed up and ready by the start time.
• Please wear form-conscious clothing appropriate for dancing, plus flat jazz shoes or bare feet.
• You may be asked to sing, so please bring a 30 sec/16 bar contemporary song that shows off your voice and range. A pianist will be provided.
• Please bring a photo (or snapshot) and resume.
• Bring sheet music. A pianist will be provided.
• Bring a picture and resume, stapled together.
• Non-Equity performers will be seen, time permitting.

The production

The rehearsals for the productions are scheduled to begin on Monday, September 9, 2024, with the current preview date as Saturday, November 2, 2024. The official opening is listed as Thursday, November 7, 2024, on or about at Princess of Wales Theatre.
