Disney’s last few Canadian stores have big deals & even bigger lineups (PHOTOS)

The rumours are true — Disney is saying farewell to Canada. Disney is closing all but 3 of its Canadian stores in the coming weeks and the liquidation sales are well underway. Curiocity stopped by the soon-to-be shuttered store at Toronto’s Yorkdale Shopping Centre on Wednesday afternoon, where the lineup to get in was as long as you’d expect for a Disneyland ride.

Shoppers were not deterred by the wait time, which was around 1.5 to 2 hours at around 1 p.m., store employees confirmed to Curiocity. The liquidation deal up for grabs is 20% off storewide, including the items that are already marked down. The store also has “daily deals,” and on Wednesday it was $14 Disney backpacks.

According to one Disney employee, the store could offer even deeper discounts before closing, but given the huge turnout, it’s not likely. In fact, it’s possible that they may close up shop ahead of schedule if the store meets its goals for the liquidation sale. Curiocity has reached out to Disney to confirm and we’ll update the story when we hear back.

The three locations that will stay open for now are at Ontario’s Eaton Centre, Scarborough Town Centre, and Vaughan Mills, according to the store locator. All other remaining stores in Canada will close by August 18 at the latest. However, Retail Insider reported back in April that all of Canada’s Disney shops will be gone by the end of the summer, so all eyes will be on those three GTA locations that are the final ones standing.

If you have a nearby Disney store location, you should be able to shop until the official closing in August, or at least until supplies last. If you live in the GTA or Ontario, you can find these liquidation sales at Yorkdale Shopping Centre, Upper Canada Mall, Hamilton (CF Lime Ridge), Ottawa (CF Rideau Centre), and London (CF Masonville Place).

In Alberta, both Edmonton stores at Kingsway Mall and West Edmonton Mall will be running a liquidation sale, as are the ones at Calgary’s Market Mall and Southcentre Mall.

In BC, unfortunately, all stores have been permanently closed for some time and in Manitoba, Winnipeg’s Polo Park Shopping Centre location will be closing by August 18 at the latest as well.

Disney won’t be leaving Canada entirely, though — you’ll still be able to shop for all of their products online, which doesn’t sound quite as exciting as browsing plush toys in-person to the Frozen soundtrack, but we’ll take what we can get!
