Ready for a real-life treasure hunt? Fill up a bucket with sparkling stones straight from the source at Diamond Willow Amethyst Mine in Ontario.

The history of this family-owned amethyst mine reaches back to the 1960s when the owner Gunnard Noyes started prospecting and mining in the area.

The mine was closed in 2007 for several years and was reopened by Noyes’ granddaughter in 2015.

It remains open to this day and visitors are welcome to stop by and visit every season from mid-May to October.

If you’re planning to do your own amethyst-hunting, you can head into the Rock Store on-site and pick up a two-gallon pail.

You can fill it with as many stones as you wish at designated picking areas throughout the mine.

The best part is that you can visit for free! There is no admission fee to enter, and a two-gallon pail is just $30.

There are also various gems for sale which you’ll find on display at the Rock Store.

There are both garden stones and polished pieces available which range in price from $2 to $1,000. Prices vary based on quality and rarity.

You can also browse a variety of amethyst jewelry and glittering stones of all kinds.

The amethyst mine is located in northeastern Ontario near Thunder Bay, so be prepared for a road trip if you’re coming from the GTA.
