Ready for a real-life treasure hunt? Diamond Willow Amethyst Mine opens next month in Ontario and you can fill a bucket with sparkling stones straight from the source.

The history of this family-owned amethyst mine reaches back to the 1960s when the owner Gunnard Noyes started prospecting and mining in the area.

The mine was closed in 2007 for several years and was reopened by Noyes’ granddaughter in 2015.

It remains open to this day and visitors are welcome to stop by and visit every season from mid-May to October.

If you’re planning to do your own amethyst-hunting, you can head into the Rock Store on-site and pick up a two-gallon pail.

You can fill it with as many stones as you wish at designated picking areas throughout the mine.
