This Ontario park has an elevated boardwalk that surrounds a rare blue-green lake

Crawford Lake Conservation Area is a day-trip adventure, simply waiting to be enjoyed. The lovely conservation area near Toronto has a boardwalk trail surrounding a rare body of water known as Crawford Lake.

Make your way to Milton, Ontario, it’s just about an hour away from Toronto.

Crawford Lake Conservation Area draws tons of people in every year thanks to its rare, meromictic lake.

What makes Crawford Lake so rare?

According to Ontario Conservation Areas, the lake shimmers with bright blue and green hues. It’s actually one of the very few meromictic lakes in Canada, where different layers of water don’t intermix, creating a mesmerizing sight.

“This small body of water formed over 10,000 years ago as a rare meromictic lake, which is a type of deep lake with two layers of water that never intermix,” shares Conservation Halton.

“The physical qualities of this tiny lake and its strict management as a protected area have contributed to well-preserved annual sediment layers in the lakebed.”

To fully enjoy the views, you’ll have to embark along a wooden boardwalk that loops around the lake.

It spans 1.8 km and loops around the lake. It then weaves through lush forest landscapes.

And in the winter, once the snow blankets the region, the conservation area becomes an outdoor wonderland.

You can go cross-country skiing along ungroomed trails or even snowshoe. Just make sure to bring your own equipment.

There is so much to explore in this conservation area, and it’s up to you to explore it.
