There’s a cozy Ontario village full of magical holiday lights and hidden surprises

Coldwater village is known for being one of “the most desirable rural towns in Ontario,” and it might be safe to say that it’s true, especially during the holidays. Once the winter season rolls around, it becomes the “village of lights” as the cozy destination shines bright with holiday decor and local offerings.

Next stop: Coldwater village

Nestled between Orillia and Midland along the scenic Highway 12 is the charming little village of Coldwater.

In fact, it is so charming that Orillia Lake Country says that “hidden surprises await” in Coldwater.

According to the village, it is now one of “the most desirable rural towns in Ontario.” That’s thanks to efforts in creating a vibrant business and shopping district for everyone, working together to beautify, promote, and host special events over the past decade.

You’ll see this beautification as you take a stroll along the picturesque main street.

Holiday season in Coldwater village

On Nov. 22, the village will host its annual tree lighting celebration, featuring a local market and scavenger hunt. But you can still enjoy the holiday magic any time this season.

Its streets are lined with wonderful and whimsical decor that truly make the village shine. Here you can stock up on treasures, handmade gifts, and all kinds of essentials.

Still need to find the perfect gift? Shopping local is a great option if you’re looking for one-of-a-kind goodies to show someone how much you care.

You will also find adorable Victorian homes and traditional churches. These line the streets and are full of old-world charm.

This village also happens to be the gateway to the Severn River and the Big Chute Marine Railway on Upper Big Chute Road.

Hungry yet? You’ll want to visit the number of restaurants that offer delicious local eats. With a wide array of dining options, from gourmet food shops to cozy eateries, there’s a little of everything.

In Coldwater, there’s an undeniable sense of warmth and charm that will keep you coming back for more.

If you’re looking for that main-character moment this holiday season and small yet cozy experience, Coldwater is the place to be.
