Guess what, craft beer lovers? They don’t call it “Yeast Van” for nothing – and joining East Vancouver’s slew of beloved breweries and distilleries is a new spot with “tail-wagging quality beer!”

CowDog Brew Company brings together a love for all dogs and hoppy brews. The opening has been 12 years in the making, born from a passion project by RCN veteran Michael Hodgson.

What’s more, the website says that the brewery is named after his rescue dog, Louis, who was given the nickname “CowDog” for his adorable brown and white cow-like splotches.

The beer

During his free time in the military, Hodgson experimented with brewing his own craft beer at home – which is where all of the recipes at CowDog originate from. Flash forward over a decade, and the new brewery is set to debut his signature flavours like the “Big Teefs” IPA and “Head Tilt” Pale Ale.

Want to take a couple of cold beers to the beach or park this upcoming season? You can pick up CowDog beers at one of these retailers across BC.

Interestingly enough – a new coffee hangout spot recently opened in Mount Pleasant under the same name – though the two don’t appear to be related. So once you’ve sampled a couple of new brews, you can always check out CowDog Coffee on Sundays and Mondays.

Opening info

CowDog Brew Company is situated on Franklin Street, just north of the Grandview-Woodland neighbourhood. The brewery is officially open as of this past weekend, from noon until 11 pm.

Note that the brewery is currently closed on Sundays.

So there you have it, Vancouver! Time to make the most of the sunshine and check out some new places!
