Mask off: Edmontonians no longer have to wear face coverings in public

To say that March has been a crazy one, would be an understatement – but the month is far from over! Last night the city of Edmonton made a major announcement that will change the way that people interact, shop, learn and work all in an effort to line up with Alberta COVID restrictions.

Effective immediately, Edmontonians will no longer have to wear face coverings in public, as the mandate was scrapped after the Alberta government introduced Bill 4 which, essentially, gives the province the power to veto any COVID-related bylaw that may not align with their reopening strategy.

“Masks are now only mandatory in settings as required by the Government of Alberta,”  they clarified in a press release. “These locations include public transit, AHS-operated and contracted facilities, and all continuing care settings.”

“The City encourages Edmontonians to be kind to one another and respect people’s personal decisions around mask-wearing.”

If you have any further questions about COVID restrictions in Alberta or would like to read more about the newly introduced bill, you can visit the government’s website.

Now – go forth Edmonton. Just please, continue to be smart and be safe!
