Practically Magical: Coupeville is one of the witchiest places to visit in Washington & here’s why

Halloweentown, Hocus Pocus, Sabrina the Teenage Witch, Practical Magic, Charmed, The Craft, Buffy the Vampire Slayer, all of these movies or series have something witchy in common. But one of these films stands out in particular because it was actually filmed right here in Washington. Hint, it has to do with two beloved sisters.

If you guessed Practical Magic, you’d be correct. The 1998 witch flick centered on two sisters was filmed in Coupeville on Whidbey Island.

The film isn’t exactly known for having the highest ratings (6.3% IMDb) but it is beloved for its perfectly 90s coastal aesthetics. What it lacks in plot, it certainly makes up for in its scenic shots, comedy, costume, and set design. It’s kind of hard not to see the comfort in this movie.

Because of that, people visit Coupeville each fall to take in the scenic sound side views and celebrate the filming of the classic fall flick.

If you want to do so yourself the Coupeville Chamber of Commerce lists several filming locations that you can visit. These include places like The Catch and Fry, Verbena Botanicals, and other minor filming spots. You won’t be able to see everything from the film but you most definitely will recognize at least a few locations.

So what are you waiting for? Treat yourself to a reboot of the classic flick and take yourself on a scenic drive to Whidbey Island this fall. Have fun!
