It’s nearly that time, Alberta. The coronation of His Majesty King Charles III will formally take place this week and like so many others Edmonton has planned a number of special events to mark the occasion.
The 40th reigning monarch to ascend the throne, King Charles III will be crowned at Westminster Abbey on Saturday, May 6th, 2023 and the world will be watching.

From City Hall and the High Level Bridge, to Commonwealth Stadium, the Muttart Conservatory, the Rossdale plant and Walterdale Bridge, buildings all over the city will be illuminated green on May 6th and 7th to honour the new king.
In addition, a tree will be planted at Coronation Park, in order to serve as a “lasting symbol of the city connection” to the historic event.
If, of course, you’d like to send you well wishes, a book of congratulations is set up at city hall and will remain there until May 5th at 5 pm.
Lastly, Edmonton’s Alberta Botanic Garden will be free to visit on Saturday, May 13th when the Honourable Salma Lakhani holds a coronation celebration which will include singers, dancers and more.
