Two brand new exhibits now showing at this free Vancouver art gallery

We’ll be the first ones to admit that excitement, like beauty, lies in the eye of the beholder, but we can’t help but share ours about this new option! The Contemporary Art Gallery, a free to visit gallery in downtown Vancouver, just opened two new exhibits that you can check out. If you’re looking for an indoor option to escape winter’s chill, then this is a great choice.

The first exhibit we’ll talk about is “Nooks and Corners” from Alex Morrison. Born in the UK but currently living and working in Vancouver, Morrison explores the ‘aesthetics of utopian thought’. In other words, expect paintings and sculptures that aim to highlight how often-overlooked objects (like a chair, or plant) might change meaning over the years.

Meanwhile, Alison Yip is a Calgary born artist currently residing in Germany. Her exhibition, “Soma Topika”, uses a variety of mediums to explore the ways that humans experience “time, space, self, and relationships”. For this exhibition, Yip engaged with a psychic and a neo-shaman with questions about her life, then let those interactions guide her works.

A trip to the art gallery is always a good time, so, keep the Contemporary Art Gallery in mind if you’re looking for something different to do this February!
