There are lots of reasons to visit PEI. Like sprawling beaches, dramatic coastlines, and of course, all the Canadian history and culture.

Nestled in the heart of historic Charlottetown you’ll find Confederation Centre of the Arts, and it’s a must-see for art and theatre lovers. They’ve got everything from world-class exhibitions, original theatrical performances, music, dance, education, heritage programming, and more.

If you happen to find yourself in Charlottetown for an afternoon, here’s everything you can do at Confederation Centre of the Arts.

Enjoy The Theatre

Summer in Charlottetown means there’s already lots going on. If you need a bit of indoor time after a day at the beach (that sunburn will heal, don’t worry), you can’t go wrong with live theatre!

The Charlottetown Festival at Confederation Centre has a pretty unreal lineup, from the iconic Anne of Green Gables – The Musical™, to Jersey Boys, Becoming Dolly, and 70 Mile Yard Sale.

There will also be free Outdoor Amphitheatre dance performances throughout July and August – so you really can’t go wrong!

Explore The Arts

Lose yourself in the visual arts! Confederation Centre Art Gallery carries a huge variety of local and Canadian visual art. Explore pieces influenced by Canadian historical, modern, and contemporary perspectives.

The Gallery also contains over 17,000 artworks, artifacts and archival records in its collection! Be sure to check out current exhibitions like Erica Rutherford: Her Lives and Works, Together Apart Under One Roof, and The Sweet Spot.

See Into The Past

Dive into Canada’s history and explore the many stories of Confederation in the Confederation Chamber Replica, or try a more interactive experience with the Heritage Players on a historic walking tour, a Ghost Tour, or a Backstage Tour.

Look To The Future

There are exciting things on the way, like LIVE @ the Centre programming this upcoming fall. The Centre’s revitalization project and the new National Cultural Leadership Institute, Arts Innovation Hub, and Arts Academy are also coming soon. These will all be part of The Confederation Centre’s next chapter – and just that much more reason to come back and visit again!

Learn Something New

If fall travel is more your thing, then stop by to attend (or watch the live-stream) the 20th annual Symons Medal Presentation and Lecture. This event recognizes individuals who have made an exceptional contribution to Canadian life.

Even further into the future, spring 2025 marks the return of the Centre’s Charlottetown Forum, a newer event that brings together artists, leaders, and the public to discuss what’s important to Canadians.

Between the beach, nature, and historic downtown – you can’t pass up a visit to Confederation Centre of the Arts in Charlottetown. Get the most out of this charming coastal city. You might even be tempted to move there!

Make sure to follow the Centre’s revitalization project as it constructs a new  National Cultural Learning institute, Arts Hub, an Arts Academy into its existing 60s brutalist architecture.
