BC was just named one of the best places to travel to in 2023 & here’s why

Condé Nast Traveler is no stranger to the natural beauty, wildlife, and tourism opportunities in BC, and they have several recent rankings to prove it. Most recently, these BC ski resorts were recognized in their Readers’ Choice Awards, and now, the writers have named BC as one of the best places to travel to in 2023.

Every year, Condé Nast editors and writers feature extraordinary global destinations with a little something for everyone. Whether it’s “excursions through ancient rainforests” or exploring world-class music and art scenes, the magazine aims to promote “slower travel” – AKA, richer engagement with the local communities that people visit.

BC’s ranking

As for BC, Condé Nast recognized the province as a go-to for “Indigenous-led experiences and wilderness lodges.” On that, we can definitely agree.

From the Rockies to the islands of Haida Gwaii, there is no shortage of culturally enriching stays & experiences to take part in. Condé Nast highlights the Haida-owned and operated Haida House, which launched new ocean-front longhouse-style cabins this year, and includes a visit to the islands’ ancestral village sites (Daajing Giids).

Other Indigenous-owned and operated experiences that were highlighted include the Nemiah Valley Lodge in the interior Chilcotin region – which will open for its first full season next June – the Klahoose Wilderness Resort in Desolation Sound, and Vancouver’s only Indigenous restaurant, Salmon N’ Bannock.

Last but not least, Condé Nast shouted out the Tofino Wildnerness Resort in Quait Bay, which is set to reopen under Ahousaht First Nation ownership in 2023.
