7 of the 10 coldest places on Earth right now are in Canada

The Great North is no stranger to ice and snow, but that doesn’t mean we don’t shudder at the idea of freezing temperatures. Bundle up and stay indoors – because according to Weather Now, 7 of the 10 coldest places on earth today are in Canada.

From blizzards to high winds, forecasts in the western and northern parts of the country are giving us the chills – but we’re hoping those in Nunavut and the Yukon are staying especially warm today.

While things will likely change as the sun moves through the sky, Rea Point in the Qikiqtaaluk Region of Nunuvut is currently listed as one of the coldest places on the globe at 40°C.

Other Canadian cities mentioned were Sanirajak (also known as Hall Beach) which is currently calling for -39°C and Komakuk Beach, Yukon at -38°C.

Taloyoak, NU, also has us shivering at the thought of their frigid -38°C, but of course, no matter where you are today – it’s important to be smart and dress appropriately.

According to Environment and Climate Change Canada, the chance of getting frostbite increases rapidly at windchill values below -27°C, and with much of Alberta, parts of Newfound Land, Quebec, and Saskatchewan under extreme cold warnings you don’t want to get caught by Mother Nature without a pair of mitts.

It’s pretty frosty out there for some of you,  so if you require any more information about how to prepare or take care of your family in the cold or would like to see if there are any weather warnings in your area, we recommend that you visit the Government’s website, after all – knowledge is power!

Alternatively, if you’d like to see the coldest (and hottest) cities, towns and hamlets in the world, you can visit the WX-Now website as well.

Good luck, be kind and stay safe! Heck, maybe treat yourself today. You deserve it.
