Tattoos are more than just ink on skin. They’re personal stories, bold statements, and, at Closed Casket Tattoo, they’re works of art.
Located in Ajax, this shop has built a name for itself by pushing creative boundaries and elevating the entire concept of tattooing. With a team of ridiculously talented artists and a philosophy rooted in craftsmanship and innovation, Closed Casket is redefining what it means to wear your art on your sleeve — quite literally!
A one-of-a-kind team

The artists at Closed Casket are always looking to create something that goes beyond what you’d expect from an average tattoo, plus, everyone’s got their own story.
Take studio owner Travis Greenough, who was always drawn to creativity and tools. After studying electronics in college and exploring the music industry in California, Greenough returned to Canada to open up shop and tap into his visual expression, learning the fine art of tattooing.
“Our team of artists have such a broad range of styles and personality types that I feel gives it a very unique place amongst tattoo shops,” Greenough tells us. “Every artist at the shop is always trying to advance their artwork and make tattooing even more of the legitimate art form that it has become.”
But, it goes without saying that tattooing is deeply personal — what one person loves, another might not. So, how do the artists at Closed Casket balance their clients’ ideas with their own unique styles?
“Our artists always do consultations with their clients to help understand what the client is looking for and to explain how best they can help them represent that idea. In this process the concept can be applied to that artist’s particular style to make sure the idea is expressed and that it will work in the style of that artist to achieve the best possible result.”
The team covers all types of tattoo styles, so whatever you’re looking for, you’ll find the artist who can turn your idea into a masterpiece! And, at the studio, you can expect a welcoming, clean, and safe environment, along with some pretty epic decor.
Trending tatts

When it comes to tattoo trends, styles are constantly evolving. In the 90s, bold tribal designs and barbed wire bands were all the rage, the 2000s saw more of a shift towards portraits, colourful sleeves, and script tattoos, and now fine-line tattoos and minimalistic designs are hot hot hot.
“There was a trend of freehand evil sci-fi monsters that was happening in around 2012. I was a big fan of that and had a lot of fun doing it. Some artists are still doing something similar to this but with more relatable subject matter,” says Greenough. Regardless of what you’re into, tattoos are a timeless form of self-expression, unique to each individual.
“I once tattooed a portrait of a man who had fallen on a pitchfork that had pierced straight through his face. The man survived — and the tattoo is on my shop manager’s leg almost 20 years later!” Greenough says.
Real-life stories, fantasies, dreams, and reminders can lay the groundwork for your next ink piece. It all depends on what you’d like to express through the artwork on your body.
Looking to the future
The team at Closed Casket are always looking for ways to make the tattooing experience even better experience for their clients.
“[We are] currently considering some remodelling of the store to make it a more immersive experience and we also have some products that have been in prototyping so keep an eye out!”
