City council just approved YongeTOmorrow – here’s what’s coming in the future!

Toronto’s Yonge Street is about to get a major makeover. The highly anticipated proposal for YongeTOmorrow was just officially approved by city council. The vote ended up being 21-5 in favour of the project. This means that some pretty big changes are coming to Yonge Street in the near future and beyond.

So what can we expect with the YongeTOmorrow revitalization? Think current Yonge Street, only better. The plan’s main focus is on optimizing the space for cyclists and pedestrians. There will be more room for seating, sidewalk cafés, and planting. Which is sure to bring a whole new life to the area.

The biggest changes are set to be focused the area of Yonge Street between College/Carlton Street and Queen Street. It’s here that we’ll see even more bike lanes, urban parks and outdoor spaces, and tons more room for walking.

Overall, the hope is that Yonge Street will become a safer, more accessible, and more functional area of Toronto. Given how many people walk through the area every day, we’re definitely on board with that.

There’s no word yet on when exactly the revitalization is set to be complete. But we’re sure this 10-year-in-the-making plan will seriously transform the area.
