We’ll be honest, even more so than hugs and social gatherings – we’ve missed being able to sit down with a bag of layered popcorn to watch a movie in the theatre. Luckily, in light of the government’s announcement that Ontario will be moving to step three (even earlier than we expected), we won’t have to wait too much longer to get all buttered. Get ready, folks because Cineplex just announced that they’ll be opening theatres next Friday, July 16th!

“Our team has been waiting for this day and are thrilled that next week we will finally be able to reopen our doors in Ontario,” President and CEO of Cineplex, Ellis Jacob, said in a press release. “We can now enjoy movies the way that they’re meant to be seen, with Cineplex providing the escape of the big screen and big sound that we have all been missing for so long.”

With brand new titles including Black WidowFast 9: The Fast Saga and Space Jam: A New Legacy (hell yes) the popular entertainment chain has already begun working tirelessly to get all 68 of their venues up and running ready for the big day.

Of course, when we are able to return things will look a tad different – but these slight changes won’t be anything we’re not already used to.

In accordance with local guidelines, Cineplex Ontario will reduce capacity, enhance their cleaning protocols and add safety signage throughout, in addition to enforcing reserved seating and distancing.

Remember, friends – be safe, be smart, and enjoy yourselves! It’s been a hot minute since we’ve been able to.
