We’re probably a little biased, but after the winter we’ve had- Calgarians seriously deserved a celebration to brighten up our spirits and our city! And lucky for us, the first annual Chinook Blast powered by Shaw has been delivering big time. If you were waiting for a sign to check it out- this is it. The third and final weekend of this year’s Chinook Blast is happening Friday, Feb 26th to Sunday, Feb 28th from 3:00 PM to 9:00 PM.
This year’s celebration consists of 3 main components: The Hub, Partner Pop-Ups, and Friends of Chinook Blast. And of course, these installations are safely set up to ensure physical distancing throughout.
The Hub
A stunning walk-through art park from East Village down through Stephen Ave then up along 3rd Street SW. Between the Laser Plaza, Winter Froth Balloons, and the ‘Between a Rock and An Art Place’ display in celebration of this year’s Curling Championship Bubble- these displays are must-sees!
Partner Pop-Ups
With art installations including ice sculptures, glowing fortresses, and augmented reality murals, these partner pop-ups are lighting up many of downtown Calgary’s neighbouring communities in Inglewood, Chinatown, Kensington, Crescent Heights, and Victoria Park.
Friends of Chinook Blast
Includes virtual events and performances from some of Calgary’s most celebrated artists and creatives. Whether it’s the YYC Hot Chocolate Fest, Alberta’s Photography Festival, Calgary’s Midwinter Bluesfest, and tons more- this portion has excitement to suit everyone’s tastes!
So, grab your bubble (and your camera), because this insanely Instagramable annual celebration is one worth bundling up, and getting outside for this weekend!
